Of course, dragon tattoos are a classic. But they are still worth a look, especially when they are gorgeously done… Dragons are a mystery. They are one of the only mystical animals that can be found in some many different cultures, with the same descriptions and yet, no proofs of existence… Are they a memory of dinosaurs? Or of real monsters existing until the Middle Age? We can’t say, but what is certain is that they fascinate us. The oldest representations of dragons are coming from Asia and, therefore, dragon tattoos are heavily found in Japanese traditional style, swaying massively on irezumis and big Asian style tattoos. But they are also a very strong element of Western culture: in ancient mythologies, but mostly in Middle Age where knights were fighting dragons and wizards such as Merlin were taming them. These dragons were mixing pagan legends with the Christian Devil, leading to a huge presence in fantasy and its use in popular culture. You can now commonly find dragons in movie adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien, TV serie Game of Thrones, as well as many animation movies which are adored both by children and adults. These adults, indeed, are coveting modern dragon tattoos… But they require skills. Their serpentine design need a perfect placement, playing with the shapes of the muscles and body. They are also full of details (all tattoo apprentices can tell you about the oh-so dreaded scales…) that need experience and technique. Dragons are powerful and mystic, but they are also the pride of experienced tattoo masters. Don’t expect to get a dragon tattoo at bargain rates if you truly want a kick-ass dragon tattoo!!!
