Kat Von D is Changing the Face of the Beauty Industry

Kat Von D is in a league all her own. A tattoo artist by trade, Von D wears a multitude of hats, including model, entrepreneur, television personality, and animal rights activist. Nowadays she’s mainly known for her famous tattoo shop in West Hollywood, High Voltage, as well as her high end beauty brand, Kat Von D Beauty. But before the seemingly overnight success of KvD Beauty, the brand was just the brainchild of Sephora and Von D herself.
Initially meant to be a small collaboration between beauty giant Sephora and Von D, the first collection was nothing more than a set of “the four most perfect shades of red lipstick.” The collaboration quickly became a hit, and soon there was an entire beauty line.
Inspired by the lasting pigmentation of tattoos, all KvD Beauty products are designed to mimic the meticulous accuracy and precision of a real tattoo. In an interview with Vogue, Von D says that the Tattoo Liquid Eyeliner, arguably the brand’s most successful product to date, was "inspired by [her] work as a tattoo artist, which requires the utmost precision. The brush has over 300 superfine bristles which means that it never frays like a felt tip liner and allows for the thinnest line even able to get between lashes. It mimics the finest needle in the tattoo world, which [she uses] for the most detailed designs.”
Other products, like fan-favorite Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, are designed to last for up to twenty-four hours of wear. They’ve even created a concealer that’s so richly pigmented it can actually cover a tattoo should the need ever arise.
So forget sticking (pun intended) to the traditional machine method, the next frontier for tattoos is make-up!
