Tattoo Artists You Really Should Get to Know: Caitlin Thomas
We are so not on a shortage of talented female artists. In fact, they’re just as madly skilled as the men we’ve featured. Who can forget Alex Strangler? She’s definitely on my list of artists I’d get tattooed by before I hit thirty. There was also the legendary Lisa Orth. And recently, we’ve introduced you to Boo, the hand poke artist. She does all her tattoos completely by hand. That’s the kind of people we need around here.
Let’s give way to the next lady in line, tattoo artist Caitlin Thomas, who also has something she can call her own. Hailing from Adelaide, South Australia, Caitlin Thomas has been tattooing for a while now, having studied graphic design, illustration, and visual arts.
Caitlyn’s art style isn’t for everyone. Especially if you’re loyal to bold lines and colours that pop. But that’s no reason to shake off Caitlyn Thomas. Keep her on your tattoo artist list if ever you need someone who kills it with clean lines and details in black ink.
Caitlin does a lot of nature-themed tattoos, paying such attention to the markings on the leaves and animal fur. It’s the little things like that which makes Caitlin’s works stand out.
As I’ve said, it’s not for everyone. Not everyone will appreciate the simplicity of Caitlin’s style. It’s uncomplicated, yet refined. Even your dear momma will love it.
“The science behind the process and the idea of being able to carry art around with you and transform your appearance has always intrigued me,” Caitlin writes on Instagram.
Her tattoo mantra is the “less is more” belief. And seeing her works, we can’t quite agree more.
“I am hoping to help create a new movement of tattooing that promotes the idea that less is more,”
Caitlin views tattoos as almost organic things, preferring purely black ink over colour to emphasize the skin colour of her clients instead to realy bring it out.
The 25-year-old tattoo artist reveals that she only has a couple tattoos, which may come off as odd to some people. “People may be surprised to learn that I only have a couple of tattoos,” she says.
Oh, and did we mention that she plays the drums too?
Some of my personal favourites.
