Cate Blanchett brought trompe l’oeil i.e. optical illusion to the red carpet in tattoo-style dress by Aouadi.
The 46-year-old actress is known for her unique style on red carpet and once again she managed to surprise us with her custom made Aouadi dress at the premiere of “Carol” at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center in New York City.
The dress made Cate Blanchett look like she had freshly tattooed her both arms and chest, however, the inked artwork was just an illusion and simply stitched onto the fabric. And we must say, the temporary ink looked good on her!

Chic tattoo couture – a new trend on the red carpet?
The main feature of the dress: sequin embellishments with tattoo-style sleeves

The newcomer French fashion designer, Yacine Aouadi, presented his first collection he named “Hybrid Couture”. The F/W collection is where the beautiful tattooed dress worn by Cate Blanchett is actually from. The fashion designer states “For me, haute couture is the last remaining part of fashion that rises above the limits of marketing and trends”. His collection offered a refreshing and new perspective for high fashion trends, focusing mainly on eveningwear. He said: “What I wish to do is to propose a wardrobe, one that’s real and that avoids the clichés of couture,” and he has indeed succeeded with his Victorian yet modern collection. The whole collection is focusing on the black palette, and is combined with colour popping zip details, delicate lace, trompe l’oeil tattoos, puff long sleeves and square necklines, showing off his creativity and exquisite taste of fashion.
