Fans of the Kardashian/Jenner family, and there are millions of those out there believe it or not, are losing their collective mind after seeing the latest magazine cover featuring Kendall Jenner. No, this isn't another situation of a Kardashian balancing a champagne glass on their posterior. This time people are freaking out over the massive snake tattoo Jenner is rocking on her thigh.
This is not the first time that we've seen Jenner with some ink she has some small letters spelling meow on the inside of her lip and a small white heart on her finger. It would be quite a leap to go from tiny tattoos that are easily hidden to an eye-catching serpent slithering up the thigh. It's almost unbelievable that Jenner made such a bold decision... and for good reason. It's a fake.
It turns out that the snake tattoo is part of a series of covers for V Magazine shot by Mario Testino. In each of the covers an up and coming model is inthe process of adding a prominent tattoo to their body. It's a pretty captivating series of photos to be honest, but it would have been a hell of a lot more intriguing if it were authentic.
We understand the reason that V Magazine and Testino would want to frame a shoot in this manner, but how much more striking would it have been if their were actual tattoos involved? A shoot like that would become the thing of legend. Plus, if you had a really talented tattoo artist at the helm Jenner's snake wouldn't just be part of a magazine cover soon to be forgotten, it would be an indelible part of her look for decades to come. Now, that would be areal statement worth talking about.
Maybe Jenner is taking the snake for a "test drive" and we'll see the real deal on her skin a few months down the road. But more likely this is another example of an artist/model/brand trying to co-opt the aesthetic of a subculture they don't fully understand in an attempt to seem "edgy." Jenner and her snake "tattoo" will be in the dustbin of history even before the issue is off the newsstands. Too bad, considering the opportunity that lay before her. We'll keep our fingers crossed that Jenner, or another courageous model, takes that step in the future.
