Tattooed Troopers: Kansas Highway Patrol Might Change Its Policy

Stories
Due to a shortage in troopers, the Kansas Highway Patrol may possibly change its tattoo policy and bring in more tattooed troopers!!
Understaffed and in need of applicants, the Kansas Highway Patrol is turning to tattoos for help. Down on 100 troopers of the required 500, the KHP is in desperate need of more applicants to fill the shortage. They could possibly be turning to tattooed individuals to boost figures. Currently the KHP tattoo policy automatically disqualifies any applicants with;
– Any offensive tattoo regardless of location on the body. – Any tattoo that would be visible when wearing a uniform or required work attire. – Any marking appearing on the head, face, neck, hands or arms below the bicep.
The current policy largely affects applicants whose tattoos would be visible in a short sleeved shirt but a change could soon be the on the cards. KHP have issued a public survey to help them determine whether a tattooed trooper would be welcomed or not. You can take a look at the survey yourself here!! It’s open until January 29th!
With the help of the public, the KHP could soon have an answer to their shortage of troopers and with that answer would come a great change to the tattoo policy. That would add more tattooed troopers to the patrol.
What do you think about the possibility of tattooed troopers? Is it a good thing or something you’d rather not see?

“Recruitment is always something we are looking at and we don’t want to lose a good candidate…The Highway Patrol has a rich tradition of being very professional. We want to get the public’s opinion of what they think of having visual tattoos on their officers.” -Lieutenant Adam Winters
