Tairrie B Murphy turned 50 this year and after 20 years of fronting metal bands has gone back to her rap roots she began back in the 90’s.
This awesome tattooed lady was one of the first white female rappers back in the old school rap days. A protegee of rapper Eazy-E she launched her solo album in 1990 “Power of a Woman”. Unlikely as it might seem she fit right in with the Compton’s notorious gangsta rap pioneer Eazy-E’s Ruthless family. She kept her own unique style and a killer attitude. Iggy Azalea can thank Tairrie B for paving the way for her and other female rappers.

After her first solo album release she moved into a fusion of rapping and alternative metal styles with the band Manhole which later became Tura Satana. Apparently rapper Ice-T’s band Body Count was a big influence on her to cross over into a fusion of these styles.

Tairrie was a late starter when it came to her tattoos. She got her first one on the back of her neck saying “Baby Doll” when she was in her early 30’s after leaving an abusive relationship. In an interview with Metal Hammer magazine she said it was a big FU to the person. Tairrie believes as an artist her tattoos are very meaningful for her and part of her soul. She has left and right upper arm tattoos based on religious icons. Although she isn’t a religious person she is drawn to the iconography and symbolism of it.

Her favorite tattoo is on her right arm and reads “Blasphemous Girl” the same name as her clothing line and custom jewelry. She got the tattoo after being in a car accident in 2006 that almost ripped her left arm off. She went through skin grafts and surgery and was left with a huge scar.

I hope I look this stunning when I turn 50!
In June this year Tairrie revealed she was going back to her old school rap days and launching a new album “Vintage Curses” a west coast rap album full of folkloric witchcraft themed songs and her trademark vicious lyrics. Receiving both high support and criticism from fans and music media alike Tairrie faces a tough crowd but her first release “Beware the Crone” has some killer lyrics and catchy beats.
