Lady Gaga Assortment of Tattoos
She's on the right track, baby. But she wasn't born this way.

Lady Gaga and football don't seem to be a match made in heaven, do they? The ArtPop singer doesn't seem like the type of person who you could sit down and eat some wings with while watching the gladiators of the gridiron. (I mean, we might be surprised, but that's our gut.) Alas, Gaga is performing at the halftime show at this year's Super Bowl, so buckle in and buckle up. We'll see how it goes.
If you're not the biggest fan of this plan, maybe you can at least appreciate Gaga's assortment of tattoos. Mother Monster has gotten quite a few over the years and here are some of the meanings behind the raddest and baddest ones. (What? We're feeling lyrical today.)
On Gaga's left side, she's got plenty of ink. Admitting that her father doesn't like tattoos, Gaga only gets tattooed on her left side to keep her right side "pure" for her dad. (So, does he only walk on her right side or what?) She calls her left side her "Iggy Pop side" and her right side the "Marilyn Monroe side."
So let's dive into the Iggy Pop side, shall we?
First up, she's got her "monster paw" hand motion tattoos on her side/rib area, along with the words "Mother Monster." Gaga calls her fans her "Little Monsters" and Gaga is the "Mother Monster." It's symbolic of her connection with her fans, as she frequently asks her audiences to "raise their paws in the air."
Gaga also has a heart with "dad" scripted on her shoulder. Even though pops doesn't like tattoos, she still has a ton of love for him, enough to get a tattoo honoring him.
The mouse on her arm is a dedication to her sister, who is a fashion designer nicknamed "mouse." So she got a tattoo of a mouse holding a sewing needle.
Gaga has a unicorn on her left thigh that has script that reads, "Born This Way." This is a shout out to her album of the same name.
She also has a tattoo memorializing David Bowie and his Ziggy Stardust character. Gaga was always a fan of Bowie, and his flare for the charismatic.
In order to commemorate her unity with sexual abuse survivors, Gaga has the symbol of survivors tattooed on her shoulder blade. She and 50 other victims of abuse got the same, matching tattoo as Gaga to unify them.
The tattoo on Gaga's inner arm is a quote from poet Rainer Maria Rilke. It translates to: In the deepest hour of the night, confess to yourself that you would die if you were forbidden to write.
The peace sign on her left wrist is a tribute to John Lennon. Simple as that.
The roses on her back actually cover up her first tattoo, a clef note. Kat Von D took it upon herself to cover it up with some beautiful roses.
Hopefully we'll get to see all of these tattoos in all of their glory during the halftime show this year. If not, we'll be sure to get some poppy pop music, whether you like it or not!
