Ira Chernova is unapologetic in her love for tattoos. Once considered taboo for the fashion industry, body art has been steadily gaining acceptance and it's because of people like Chernova. She fully embraces her love for the community, the art, and how it completes her as a person.
In fact, Chernova's ink has helped her stand out amongst the sea of pretty faces ready to don magazine covers. Her "alternative" look has allowed her to obtain certain jobs that a model without body art couldn't get. She has graced the cover of Inked Magazine and appeared in Polish label Misbhv’s Spring 2017 presentation.
Chernova told Vogue that her tattoos were a bit of an issue where she was growing up in Russia, a place where tattoos are associated with prison gangs.
"I would get so much hate from older generations, and that was the worst. Unless I had to wear less in summer, I would never show [my tattoos] too obviously, because people would stare".
Since moving to New York, however, Chernova has embraced her tattoos, and sees them as another accessory to show off. Sometimes she even styles entire outfits around her tattoos.
"For me, if there is too much skin exposed, it is unbalanced," Chernova said. "And then too much attention goes onto the tattoos."
This is just another step in the mainstream acceptance of body art. Chernova is doing great work as both a model and a photographer.
She's promoting the fact that tattoos aren't that scary, Mainstream People, and you can look damn good while sporting them too!
